420 - What Is This?

What does 420 ( 4/20 ) mean? Believe it or not, it means marijuana, as in pot, weed, drugs, etcetera. 20th April is National Weed Day in United States and a few other countries, and no we are not talking about those nasty little plants that you hate getting in your rows of corn. This is the stuff that changes your persepective on the world, and literally makes you want to focus and eat. Unfortunately, it also leads to other nastier and more dangerous habits.

It is widely circulated that the number 420 is associated with marijuana because of the date “4/20″. April 20th is 4/20 and now you know the code. April Twentieth equals “illicit drugs day”. Cracking the code of marijuana users can be a bit useful at times, especially if you are a parent and care about your children.

The buzz word for marijuana is 420 because people do not want you to know they are talking about something they are using that could get them thrown in the “Grey Bar Hotel”. One other story about how the number 420 was associated with marijuana is from a group of pot-smokers from yesteryear. The group called themselves the “Waldos” and “4:20″ was the time of day they would do their dirty deed of smoking the weed. This reportedly started at  their campus statue of Louis Pasteur at San Rafael High School. Regardless of who is right, be careful driving in the United States on 20th April.

Useless Facts And Fun Trivia...

Question: Which is stronger - concrete or bone?
Answer: Bone
Useless Fact: Human bones can actually resist 40 times more stress than concrete. Don't believe it is true? Then picture a piece of concrete the size of a bone and imagine how easily it would break.

Question: What bird lays its egg in another bird's nest?
Answer: Cuckoo, Cowbird, Whyda, Honeyguide and Black-headed Duck
Useless Fact: These birds, called brood parasites, lay their eggs in another bird's nest and let the other bird parents feed and raise their chicks. The "egg abandoner" is then free to mate again and lay more eggs in another nest. The cuckoo is the best known brood parasite and an expert in the art of cruel deception. Its strategy involves stealth, surprise and speed. The mother removes one egg laid by the host mother, lays her own and flies off with the host egg in her bill. The whole process takes barely ten seconds. Cuckoos parasitize the nests of a large variety of bird species and carefully mimic the colour and pattern of their own eggs to match that of their hosts. Each female cuckoo specializes on one particular host species. How the cuckoo manages to lay eggs to imitate each host's eggs so accurately is one of nature's main mysteries.

Question: What is the largest invertebrate?
Answer: Colossal Squid
Useless Fact: A species of squid reported to be significantly larger than the giant squid, is called the Colossal squid, officially named Mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni. In February 2007 a live colossal squid was brought to the surface in Antarctic waters by a New Zealand fishing boat. This enormous squid, which was determined to be a male of the species, was 10 meters (32.8 feet), and weighed 450 kilograms (992 pounds), making it the largest squid (the largest invertebrate) ever captured. What is even more astonishing is that, from what scientists know about squid species in general, there is great sexual dimorphism in squids, with females being significantly larger than the males. If that holds true for the Colossal squid, this male specimen that was captured could very well be dwarfed by a much larger female of the species.

Question: Where was the first McDonald's located?
Answer: Arcada, California
Useless Fact: Brothers Dick and Mac McDonald open a hot dog stand called the Airdome in Arcadia, California. In 1940, the brothers move to San Bernardino, California, on Route 66. After noting that almost all of their profits came from hamburgers, the brothers close down the restaurant for several months in 1948 to implement their innovative "Speedee Service System", a streamlined assembly line for hamburgers.

Question: What is the largest insect?
Answer: Acteon Beetle or Longhorn Beetle
Useless Fact: There are different ways of measuring the size of an insect, most people would consider the largest insect to be the bulkiest and in that case the largest insect is the Acteaeom Beetle from South America. The male beetles can be 9cms long by 5cms wide by 4cms thick. If you want to measure largest by overall size, check out the South American Longhorn Beetle (Titanus giganteus) these giants can be over 16cms in body length (not including antennae) One other beetle, Dynastes hercules is also well known for reaching 16cms in length though it is not nearly as heavy. The longest insect in the world is the Stick-Insect (Pharnacia serritypes), the females of which can be over 36cm long.

Earth Day 2009...

April 22, will mark the beginning of The Green Generation Campaign which will also be the focus of the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day in 2010. With negotiations for a new global climate agreement coming up in December, Earth Day 2009 must be a day of action and civic participation, to defend The Green Generation’s core principles: Family with windmills: Renewable energy for future generations.

* A carbon-free future based on renewable energy that will end our common dependency on fossil fuels, including coal.

* An individual’s commitment to responsible, sustainable consumption.

* Creation of a new green economy that lifts people out of poverty by creating millions of quality green jobs and transforms the global education system into a green one.

Earth Day Network’s Green Generation campaign is a two-year initiative that will launch in 2009 and culminate on the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day in 2010. Similar to "The Greatest Generation" that confronted the challenge of World War II, who inspired the major societal changes that followed, the Green Generation includes ordinary people who are engaged in individual and collective activities to improve their health, to improve their schools, to participate in building a solution to urgent national and global issues, such as climate change or the world’s water crises.

Merchant and the Fisherman...

An American merchant was travelling around close to a Mexican village once. He then saw this local fisherman arriving back from the sea with a few fish in his boat.

"How long did it take you to catch the fish?", The merchant asked the fisherman.

"A very short time", replided the fisherman.

"Why didn't you wait longer so you could catch more fish?" asked the American merchant.

"Because this much is enough to fill up my family's stomach.", said the fisherman.

The merchant then asked: "what do you do with the rest of your time?"

"Well, I sleep late; then I'd do a little fishing; then I play with my kids; then I'd go in the village to drink and play guitar with friends. That's all we do...", was the Mexican fisherman's response.

The American merchant then said: "Well, I have studied in the Harvard and I can help you. You have to fish more and sell them. Then you can buy a larger boat with its money and with the income you get off that you can then buy more fishing boats. Then you'll have a lot more boats for fishing.

"And then what?", asked the fisherman.

The merchant replied: "instead of selling your fish to the medelling man you can sell them directly to the customers and set up a business for yourself... Then you'd build a factory and supervise its productions... Then you'd leave this small village and then you go to Mexico City! And after that to Los Angeles! And after that to New York... That is where you'd be doing more important jobs...

The fisherman asked: "how long would that take?"

"About fifteen to twenty years!", said the merchant.

"And then what sir?", asked the fisherman.

The merchant responded: "that is the best part: when the right time comes, you'd go and sell the company's stocks at a very high price. This will bring you millions of dollars of revenues!

The fisherman, excited, said, "millions of dollars? And then he asked, "well, what then?"

The merchant replied: "then you'd be retired! you'd go to a small coastal village! Where you can sleep late, do a little fishing and play around with your kids! And then go in the village to play guitar with your friends, stay late time and have fun.

LITTLE Things...

A good one for all of us to ponder…

What ever that happens in life, happens for good..... so stop worrying about the future and forget the past.

After Sept. 11th, one company invited the remaining members of other companies who had been decimated by the attack on the Twin Towers to share their available office space. At a morning meeting, the head of security told stories of why these people were alive, and all the stories were just the 'LITTLE' things.

As you might know, the head of the company survived that day because his son started kindergarten. Another fellow was alive because it was his turn to bring donuts. One woman was late because her alarm clock didn't go off in time. One of them missed his bus. One spilled food on her clothes and had to take time to change. One's car wouldn't start. One went back to answer the telephone. One had a child that dawdled and didn't get ready as soon as he should have. One couldn't get a taxi. The one that struck everyone was the man who put on a new pair of shoes that morning, took the various means to get to work but before he got there, he developed a blister on his foot. He stopped at a drugstore to buy a Band-Aid. That is why he is alive today.

Now when I am stuck in traffic, miss an elevator, turn back to answer a ringing telephone......... all the little things that annoy me. I think to myself, this is exactly where God wants me to be at this very moment...

Next time your morning seems to be going wrong, the children are slow getting dressed, you can't seem to find the car keys, you hit every traffic light, don't get mad or frustrated...

Subconscious Mind...

If you have ever read any self help information or information about the mind, then you have probably come across the term "subconscious mind". This statement is thrown about so often, that people are familiar with the term "subconscious" but have little or no idea what it actually means. In this article we are going to be taking a brief look at what is an extremely complex and detailed subject.

So What Is The Subconscious Mind?
The simplest way to understand the subconscious is as a sleeping mind, that you have no conscious awareness of. Your subconscious is constantly recording new information you obtain from the environment around you and stores it away. This means that everything you have ever seen, heard or experienced has been filed away somewhere in the depths of your subconscious mind.

The information that has been stored in your subconscious forms your belief systems, which influence how you act as a person and the things you believe in.

However not all information that enters the subconscious is equal. For example, your first 6 years of life will have the greatest influence on shaping your subconscious mind. This is because when you are born you must learn how to do things, and the way the world works from other people. Therefore the first people to have an influence on your mind are your parents.

After 6 years of age your subconscious now has a foundation of information to work with, and so in the future, compares all incoming information against what it already has. This means some information may be rejected, modified or added too. This tweaking process typically occurs during your teenage years, after which it becomes much more rigid, making it harder to alter.

However it is possible to modify your beliefs in the subconscious after your teenage years, however it will likely take repeated exposure over a prolonged period of time in order for the subconscious to be modified again.

So as you can see your subconscious mind is who you are, who you have been and who you will be in the future. It is influence by some information more than others, which makes up belief systems that are expressed in the way you live and act in your life.

The Power of Your Subconscious Mind
"The reason man may become the master of his own destiny is because he has the power to influence his own subconscious mind." – Napoleon Hill

The power of your subconscious mind cannot be under estimated. Even though we do not fully understand how the subconscious works exactly, the power of it is undisputed.

It is important to understand that both negative and positive thoughts have an effect on your subconscious mind. By continually dwelling on what's wrong in our life, our subconscious is fed with negatives, and we become gloomy. Just by being aware of what we think, read, and listen to, we can make a positive change.

If you leave it, your subconscious mind will be like a garden that is unattended - the weeds will take over. You DO have control over this awesome power. And the really cool thing is that there is no rocket science needed to develop it.

A practical method for feeding your subconscious mind with positive material is reading. Find an article, or book chapter about something that really strikes a chord with you - somthing that's really positive. Keep this this handy (bedsied drawer or on your desk), and read it regularly. You will be amazed at how easily you recall this material after only a short time. That is the power of your subconscious mind.

Being Tagged...

This is the last tag I favour :) It's from Noushy.

FMORT stands for Five Minutes of Random Thoughts. It is a byproduct of a wild whim that played in my mind during one of my day dreaming sessions. In an attempt to bring something productive out of it, I thought of giving it a shape. It is fun to read what people think, when they are asked to think for five minutes of allotted time.

* True.. The earth is sphere.
* Wonder if my money grows.
* If I forget turns off the light and the PC
* If I'm thinking about life
* If I'm finish reading the mags that I just bought.
* How lovely if I could be rich tomorrow morning!
* Should I stay awake every night.
* How nice if everyday is the week end
* Lazy to get to work after a long breaks..
* Thinking buying team Chelsea.
* Wish Malaysia could do better for the next game.
* Thinking about West Bank incident.
* Thinking about going shopping.
* Shit!! it's getting cold now...
* Thinking of re-installing new IM.
* Wanna chat with Bush.. hehehhe
* Get annoyed when someone buzz the doorbell at this time around!
* Errr..times up?Not yet??
* Wish I don't daydream
* I guess time's almost up...
* Will tell Noushy when I finish this
* Thinking about no one right now.
* Wanna tag nobody.
* Hmmmm...times up, that's it.

The Relationship between Happiness and Work

Success means different to various sorts of people. But to most people, unfortunately, success means a new car (that is not just any car), a mansion, multiple businesses, a white collar job, management work, or just plain money. Having all these things could give you a sense of power. Yet a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment is far more difficult to achieve. You would have to tap into the immaculate relationship between happiness and work.

The relationship between happiness and work is often overlooked especially as happiness is more frequently equated to family life or to love. However, the relationship between happiness and work bear out an important concern since an unhappy work-life affects our other relationships most especially the home. The key then is to keep a healthy, positive, and sustained relationship between happiness and work, and to do this, you dont have to be (job-) rich.

What could be said as the most serious hindrance to happiness in the workplace is discontent. Most people always wait for the time they will be happy when actually they already are. If youre not experiencing any on the following list then you might want to look closer into your inner contentment. The obvious obstacles to having a good relationship between happiness and work are: lack of job security, not having enough salary to pay debts, living payday after payday, no money to save, invest, or buy a house or lot, being passed-over for wage-increase or promotion, getting stuck in a dead-end job, lack of know-how about technologies coming into your workplace, embarrassment about your job, frustration at seeing others get on better or get ahead faster, desiring to do better but unsure of what to do or how, and worrying about the future in general. The solution to these problems could only take a diligent choice and change physically. However if you still feel discontented when these physical problems are already out of the scenario, then thats the problem. You might want to look into your goals to work against trying to succeed in the sense of priding for a good show or towards greedy objectives, for success is far simpler than all these, yet much more pleasing.

Im sure youve heard about this maxim, learn to do the smallest thing in the grandest manner This is a great summary when it comes to the concern about our keeping the relationship between happiness and work within reach. One may not catch a successful by-product out of his good efforts yet the thing is, as always, performing your chosen job as well as you are able win or lose. And if you manage to win only a perfect little world, then remember that it is still a perfect one no matter how little.

In the end it might just be, gaining more than what you earn.

Blessed!!!

You are Blessed!

  • If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof overhead and a place to sleep, you are richer than 75% of the people of this world!
  • If you have money in the bank and in the purse, you are among the top 8% of the world's wealthy persons!
  • If you wake up this morning with more health than illness, you are more blessed than one million who will not survive this week!
  • If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture or the pangs of starvation, you are more blessed than three billion people in the world!
  • If you hold up your head with a smile on your face and are truly thankful, you are more blessed because you can offer healing touch!
  • If you can read this message, you are more blessed than over two billion people in the world that cannot read at all!
Count your blessings and pass this message to remind everyone else how blessed they are.

Points to Ponder...

Sometimes we must be hurt in order to grow,
Sometimes we must fail in order to know,
Sometimes we must lose in order to gain,
Because some lessons in life are best learned through pain...

Being defeated is often only a temporary condition. Giving up is what makes it permanent.
- Marilyn vos Savant

If you're never scared or embarrassed or hurt, it means you nevertake any chances.
